In Windows, for example, a program may be an .msi, .exe, or through an archive file in which you must extract the files into a folder then access the application.

Managing files, the types of backups (manual, automatic backup through software) several file flags (indexed, encrypted, archive) (which can activate on some files when a change is made so Windows knows to back it up (need to re-read), and, afterwards, the flag is taken off until the next change), permissions (best practices - use "allow" as a Boolean and don't touch "deny" to prevent issue) and how to change them.
