I notice Painter gives a rosy picture of our hero - for example playing down the rift between the young king and Marshal & completely ignoring the looting of monasteries.

William Marshall is now an earl! I wish the author incorporated some maps. It would be a lot easier to follow along with his narrative.

It's a slow read. You have to keep up with all the titles and double check to make sure that it is the same person but with a new name that was give them. I keep having to reread some paragraphs due to this.
