Note to self: Wheeler NWR in Alabama and Cat Island NWR near St Francisville in Louisiana sound amazing! Wheeler has Sandhill Cranes (swoon). Cat Island sounds like it might be a neat place to kayak as long as the river isn't too high. I'm making this book sound like a guide - it is so much more than that. What a treat to read.

I had never heard of a nemesis bird (a bird you can't seem to get a good observation of no matter what) before but now I want one. This book has been such a great introduction to the little quirks of birding culture!

What a resource! This first chapter paints a rich picture of birding in Louisiana, and I have a long list of spots to check out now. Whenever I get tired of living in a place or a sense of lethargy about something (like bird watching), picking up a book about that place or thing never fails to give me some perspective and excitement.
