I love the everyday normal style narrative but for a person who absolutely hates insta-love, believe me when I tell you this is painfully slow with uninteresting life side stories. And the sexual tension, which would have made the slow sizzle, is zero.

I love this. At this point it is not a romance at all. A love struck teenager, a grieving widower and a somber man not able to be nice living in one house. Cathal is an interesting character. He is no caricature, no comedian, not mean, has no disorder. He's just very different.

This is likely going to be most of my review, but I needed to write it down before I forget. 😅 It boils down to a desire for more description of the characters' appearances and settings. I enjoy the personalities, but I feel a bit more description would pull me that much more into their story.

Alright, I'm feeling a light romance and what better way than to read the first in a companion novel series by a local author?

“It’s creepy how excited you are.” Cathal was holding Damon’s hand [...].

Felix put his hands on his hips, waiting for Damon to unlock the car. “I can’t help it! You guys were being so weird. You could’ve told me it was UST.”

“What is UST?” Damon asked.

“What have I said about telling your father about things you learned from the internet?”

*Awww* [Slooooow burn...]

“Cathal, ” He turned, suddenly, so their faces were right next to each other. Cathal kept the scowl on his face by sheer willpower, even though he wanted to squeak like a schoolgirl at her first dance. “I don’t understand you at all.” Damon’s voice was almost a whisper.

“And in that, we are perfectly matched,” said Cathal.

*snort* [Jealousy, thy name is Cathal...]

Cathal tried to work, but all that came out of his pen were things like Damon makes delicious cake. I like delicious cake and George has a stupid face.

*HA!* [Weird food...]

Felix was very excited by the rainbow cookies, and also by the pizza. Even though it had mashed sweet potatoes instead of sauce.

“This is a crime against nature,” Cathal informed Damon, after Felix went upstairs to run his lines. “I hope you realize that.”

“You ate three pieces.”

“It was a delicious crime. That does not change the fact that it should be illegal.”

*SNORT* [Abrupt much?...]

Damon opened his mouth, but Cathal waved his objections away. “Never you mind, though. I can tell you’re not lying.”

Damon’s belly was full of fire, and he had no way to let it out. “So, ”

“So we’re fine,” said Cathal, cutting him off. “I don’t like you, but don’t take it personally. I’m sure Era’s already told you I don’t like anybody.”
