I had hoped to get further today, but my goal is still to finish by the end of the night tomorrow. 59 pages left? That’s doable, probably. Nothing much new to report. Just waiting for the water to rise on good ol’ Wagner.

The tension is ramping up; it’s getting more interesting, and it’s not lost on me that Wagner is building nonspecific “factories” out of “sand”. Probably no coincidence that HEART OF DARKNESS was name-checked in this section. All’s to say I’m growing more invested in the book whereas it wasn’t really impressing me before.

Well, Wagner did run over the snake as promised, and those around him exposed their belief that he is now cursed, but aside from that it doesn’t seem like a lot has *happened*. There was talk about a teenager’s “small upright breasts”, so, you know, definitely a man wrote this. 🙄

I saw this at Half Price Books, in the clearance section. The title and cover both jumped out at me, and the brief synopsis—a man suffers bad luck after accidentally killing a sacred snake—seemed interesting enough. I also saw there are only 86 ratings for it on Goodreads. Reading an interesting, lesser-known title appealed to me so I bought it. So far, nothing much to report. Seems okay.
