This book has hit a bit too close to home. It is a good thing, however. Reminds me of where I have been and what’s important. I get it.

This story hits the mark. Addiction is all-consuming.

I was strung out during the same time period Joe writes about in SF and also use to hang out at a lot of the same haunts he mentions; 16th & Valencia scoring "one n' ones" off the street directly from the Mexican dealers. I've been clean since 2006 but was recently tested and diagnosed w/ Hep C and vein disease in my legs due to repeated IV drug use/ damage to my veins, so this book really hits home for me.

Why does every description of a bathroom in a memoir written by and about the lives of 'junkies' state that there is PAINT THINNER in their bathrooms? Maybe I am really naive, but what the hell are all these memoir authors doing with this PAINT THINNER all the time?? Sterilization? Huffing? I do not have an addict friend to ask....--Jen from Quebec :0)
