‘No child can be “disciplined“ into Christian faith. We are all saved by grace, not discipline. But discipline can subdue defiance that prevents the child from sitting still long enough to hear the gospel. Listening to the words of the gospel isn’t sufficient on its own to produce faith, but faith won’t spring up in the absence of hearing. So we teach our children to listen.’

I am looking for a book that gives clear, practical, yet thoroughly biblical counsel for day-to-day instruction of children. This just may be it.

My favorite parenting book - just straightforward, practical, and focused on the Gospel. Also the best explanation of "correction" from a merciful Gospel perspective.
If you thought "Shepherding A Child's Heart" was too long and detailed and time-consuming in application, than this is the book for you. Half the length, well-written, and streamlined.
I am re-reading snippets and I have highlighted so many quotes!

The first destroyers of their own children are those who neglect them and knowingly permit them to grow up without the training and admonition of the Lord.

We cannot change our children’s hearts, but if they go through life never having to complete an unpleasant assignment or yield to the leadership of an authority, we’re foolish to think we’ve prepared them to yield to God.
SOOO GOOD.

“Your children will know that your directives are important when you interrupt everything else in order to enforce them. If you’re going to show that your word is important, you must interrupt what you’re doing to enforce your word, to correct your child, and show that your words have value.”
