first chapter was full of so many goodies, i kept having tangential daydreams of all kinds.
but the opening chapter concluded that cyclical care of self and community is the way, not unfettered growth.
second chapter is more focused in telling stories of retreat: digital detox, burning man, the school of epicurus, and now tales from late 60s hippie communes.
i’m eager for more.

ironically my attention is having a hard time absorbing all the context presented in just the first chapter, but i appreciate what i have latched onto - labor unions, bird watching, marxist theory, the art of sound. i’ve added about 10 of the references to my want to read list already.
