The best part of the book is when Boteler begins to detail his kidnapping experience. His need to tell this story makes more sense!

Clearly, this is a story that is compelling. There is something nostalgic in it, even as it recounts some pretty heinous crimes. I even like the writing style of the author, although it clearly isn’t a novel. The weakness thus far is in pacing and transition. Those areas can become a little clunky.

The plot has worked its way through the first and second escapes of Albert Lepard. The impact of poverty and deprivation in his life is apparent, as is the glaring ugliness of life during the 60s if you were among the poor.

Closing out the evening with Lepard and Edwards in custody, preparing to face up to their crimes. The “old days” were definitely not all golden…
