i’m honestly so disappointed… the characters i loved in book one feel completely unrecognizable here. the first book was all about doing whatever it takes to protect your family, but this one? it’s like “love life first, family second.” 🫩

man, i’ll take a break… before this turns into a hate read 🫩 there are so many things that bugged me out, and i just can’t stand our mary sue-overly-perfect-self-absorbed-sixteen-year-old-protagonist who acts as if she’s wise and has lived a long life when she knows no shit. daughter of the forest should’ve been a standalone.

unlike her mother, sorscha, the heroine from book one—she is resourceful and knows when to flee when in danger. BUT THIS HEROINE IS ANNOYING AF. there are people hunting after them, but she resents the mmc for fleeing to save his men. she’d rather stay with the injured and get killed gah! this is not the time to be compassionate you fool!!!

I feel kind of bad saying this, but Sorcha’s descendants are just so hard to like 🥀

this heroine is ridiculous! trying to be self-righteous and judgemental! who is she to judge these outcasts when her own family and friends too has killed another man’s son—THE HYPOCRISY IS MADDENING 🙂

this book completely lacks the strong sibling bond i loved from book one. we’re told they’re close, but how is that believable when they constantly say the meanest things to each other and betray each other’s secrets? 🥲
