Final thoughts- Baru is taking the path Tain Shir took. Farrier tried it first with Tain Shir. He’s looking for the Cancrioth too. But he lost Tain Shir it. Will he lose Baru too? He’s betting that since he caught her young he can have his tentacles so deep in her she won’t be lost to her own schemes or Cancrioth. And honestly, I don’t have the answer to this question. The end of this book leaves me so empty.

Fuck. I’m overwhelmed.

Fuck! The Cancrioth is a supernatural being! It’s going to cut Baru and infuse her both it’s cancer. That’s what’ll make her a monster. Oh fuck.

But reach for your humanity. Please! I can’t bear another monumental sacrifice with this character. Regardless of what she thinks, it will mean Farrier has won and has buried his thesis deep within her. She’d be an agent of Farrier! I’m losing my goddamned mind!

Please tell me she doesn’t sacrifice her parents?! Every time I’m convinced of her humanity, she slips back into a disembodied mind! Why is it bad that the empire holds something against her? The empire holds something against everybody! Her tribadism isn’t secret. Stand for something beyond your foolish savior complex! Baru please. The stakes are hard. The stakes are always impenetrably hard with you.

And finally we’ve discovered the ultimate conspiracy. Empire’s conspiracy to steal the Ashen Sea trade ring from the Oriati Mbo. Everything by else has been a domino in service of or resulting from that conspiracy.

Oh my God. This book is going to kill me before it’s done with me isn’t it? I already feel the weight of the end of this book just like book 1. Dickinson is going to break me again! I’m so mad!

The fact that this whole book is just and immersive character study about the effects of a person who is separated from their inner self and desires. My God!

Can we talk about how Baru has become a fucking alcoholic!

Why does he write such intense 3rd act action scenes? My heart is my mouth!

Fuck! Dickinson is such an expert storyteller! Just weaving webs all around us. Aminata, who is Baru’s close friend and emotional confidante, is the source of dread to her people. And it’s all the machinations of Farrier and Hesychast!

Th way this whole scene with Tau-Indi, Baru and Iraji is just pure comedy! I’m laughing as I’m shouting at them.

I can’t believe we’ve spent almost 68% looking for Abdumasi Abd when Aminata is holding him! Get in touch with Aminata you fools! Baru! You have an in with the navy! Use it! For goodness sakes!! I’m losing my goddamned mind!

What the fuck is up with Tau-Indi?!
