This book is utterly fascinating. An inside look at drug lords and how corrupt the Mexican authorities were/are. How the Mexican government would only take down drug dealers who didn't pay for protection and only then when pressure was high from the US. What is so shocking to me is how ruthless they were. But even more shocking is how Americans enable them from pilots to ranchers to guns, the list goes on.

Fermin got worked… Marco and Becky are insane. This book is showing how twisted these folks are but how they rationalize it by doing “good deeds” even though they’re destroying the community. It’s wild to know a lot of this took place in my hometown.

Pablo is feuding with Fermin. I love how he says “Why should they suffer for a cued between me and another man?” This statement really shows what set Pablo apart from others. It’s a slight empathy that is quite honorable.
