sometimes you read fifty pages of this book and youre like idk how interesting i think the bureaucratic workings of this society are as a novel and then its hits you over the head with the profoundest, most delicate and loving chapter about family and love and youre like yeah. yeah.

struggling with the fact that we're supposed to accept the emperor as a #unproblematic fave but he also bathes regularly in rose petals worth more than cliopher's yearly salary and made cliopher have a 40 MINUTE WALK TO WORK for years.
if cliopher was the real socialist icon the author wants him to be he would've started a proletarian revolution right then and there

Me seeing myself in the efficient administrator who has worked his way up to be able to achieve good: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!

Me seeing that administrator desperately lonely and wanting praise from his loved ones but unable to articulate it so he twists their words to find insults, then having to grapple with the fact he's in a prison of his own making: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
