so much navel-gazing. so many things that could have been cut out. hell, this book would have been so much better if it had been written in 3rd person limited. i so r need to know every one of river’s thoughts.

the characters in these books are so painfully millennia, which is a me issue. i recognize that. i also recognize that as much as i enjoy the trappings of kink, the people give me adult theater kid vibes. i am predictably more drawn to the love interest and find the protagonist kind of exhausting because i’m privy to ever one of his thoughts and insecurities.

I’m glad I held out for the first sex scene with Ellison because he’s great, but the fact that it took about four or five chapters to get there and the stuff in between was not interesting enough that I considered a DNF (like it wasn’t even build up with the other romantic lead, there was barely any of that) doesn’t bode well.

I’m sorry but I’m so fed up of River’s miserable inner dialogue. I know it’s his insecurities and believe me, I’m just the same. And that’s exactly why I don’t want that in a character. He’s constantly miserable and it’s making ME miserable. I just need him to like SOMETHING Ellison does

I'm also a fan of Michael Fell (Narrator), but his portrayal of the characters is not working for me in this one. It's to "playful" Not intense enough to my liking. I think a more serious approach would have done better. I'm thinking of reading the book and stopping the audio.

I'm enjoying Ellison.. the whole "feel" about him. I like the 'emotional' thing between them.. I really appreciate when the author goes a little deeper than kink.. I LOVE the emotional connection between these types of couples. It's what ticks my boxes in BDSM. I like the powerplay from the Dom's side and the trust and letting go thing by the Sub. I like CONNECTION. The kink is just a bonus.
