There were lots of so-called ‘movements’ then - movement of this, movement of that. I thought of the ‘hygiene movement’ when we had been ordered by the government to kill flies to stop them spreading disease.

Almost half way through and it's a delightfully gentle read - the plot slowly unraveling like drifting along a river watching the scenery change.
