Status Updates From I Spy the Boy Next Door

Okay, bare minimum: at least he didn't turn out to be abusive in some way. It's a low bar, but the book cleared it. Outside of that, it was just bad.

I was genuinely beginning to suspect this was Twilight fanfic. And after this quote, I’m damn convinced I was right.

Lmao. Well. Apparently bad boy is a painter…and he painted Mallory creepy stalking him from her bedroom window. Myyyyy goooddddnnneeesss.

-sigh- And I’m back to rolling my eyes.

The mother’s response: “But he’s a bad boy!”

Lmffffaaaaoooooo. I don’t think this was meant to be hilarious. But. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

And two pages later, they’re meeting the parents. Omfg. 🤦‍♀️😂

She just called this relationship slow burning. 🥴😂

Is he going to be moody-AF Troy? Or sweet, enticing Troy?

^ And this right here is 80% of the problem with this book.

This girl is painfully dramatic. Gash in the heart? Because he doesn’t want to talk? Jfc.

Jfc, no. We’re really gonna start up with the new best friend of (what? a week?) being all omniscient about “you both obviously have feels for each other” nonsensical bullshit?

Of all the tropes, I think I hate this one the most.

…why is this man boy she barely knows being so angrily controlling? Like, I get that there’s probably going to be some stupid reveal that he somehow magically knows her better than she thinks but even that isn’t a good enough excuse for the way he’s behaving. This is starting to look like one of those books that romanticizes abuse. 🥴😬

Ma’am. You don’t know him. You’ve barely spoken and you creep stalk him out your window. There is no reason for you to be all indignant about this boy not talking to you. I can’t even.

Ngl, I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve rolled my eyes at this point.

So from around 70% of the book this has been really good but before that it really wasn’t my cup of tea...how am I even gonna rate and review this? 😂😭
