Spy thriller with cosmic mysteries and international intrigue! Loving this book.

Got a good start with this. Progress has petered out because I just find the story and characterisation dull. This is part thriller, part hard sci fi novel. The former's quality is uneven; the sci fi is at least creative. There's also something I can't put my finger on that makes the whole thing feel more campy than a James Bond film. Hopefully the thriller aspect takes a backseat very soon.

This book has me confused. It begins as a part spy/thriller peppered with science. What's clear is DeSmedt's ability to write about science without sounding like a textbook. The spy/thriller aspects feel like filler, however. I came here for black holes and scary science, dammit. :P
