I have no idea why Shika/Aki care for each other

I think this is written with mythology in mind, but damn do people just get pregnant left and right. After one pump (or so to speak) I'm also not loving Shika and the autumn princess "as destined to be together". I wish the princess' feelings had been explored more because when they were together it def did not read as consensual. And this book is refusing to address that. It's hint-hint nudge-nudge. Anyway...
