Status Updates From Run

So many people! So many moving parts! This culmination is blindingly crazy!

Okay, this is a compliment to Patricia Wentworth: this book now reminds me of those mystery-like episodes of Downton Abbey. Or perhaps the Miss Fisher mysteries? (Although the heroine/live interest is a bit too flighty in my view.) You know the shows I’m referencing! I know you do.

Yes, our hero is quite the all-gentlemen car-lover, and now we have the full frame of the mystery puzzle. I think I know that going on and who is behind it. Did Patricia Wentworth give away too much too early?

Interesting! A reference to the great detective from Belgium and not toward our hero. Well done!

James quite reminds me of Agatha Christie’s Tommy.

Only in books like this do you get “the supercilious footman” at the end of the chapter!

Her guardian! How utterly delicious! That was a scene that even Agatha Christie would have adored!

I love the little A-B-C/1-2-3 encouragements James gives himself. It’s very realistic for his personality.

The car room’s receptionist has to called Daisy, and such a perfectly constructed relationship with James.

So it’s not just foggy where the characters trod. The whole story is foggy until…there it is.

“We ought to have gone to the police-I told you so at the time.”
“People who say ‘I told you so’ are always fondly loved. It says so on their tombstones.”

Quite possibly my favourite line in a Wentworth book!

Very, very Post Victorian. Mad fun, and a good romp through British “stiff upper lip” territorial jungles.

A cracking good yarn, this one. I’m loving it.

It’s so well written and very interesting that I find this book hard to put down.

Since I love this author, and it’s time to drop out of social media for a while, I’m very grateful for ebooks.
