These women didn’t suddenly become powerful when all the men died. Women have always been powerful. The absence of men just created a space for women to be powerful

I love that in her feminist imagining of a utopia, women’s clothing had better pockets.

Me when I go to a new country and they have different ideas and a different culture. This book is so much fun! These men are so shocked to arrive in a matriarchal society and not immediately be worshipped. I love that our narrator considers himself a sociologist but doesn’t seem fully capable of understanding that as a different society these women wouldn’t have the same ideas of men as colonialism would have it

“…butting into an unknown country without any sort of a guard or defense. We seemed to think if there were men we could fight them, and if there were only women — why, they would be no obstacles at all.”

This is a civilized country, there must be men! Also this book is very good so far, I put off starting it because I wanted to read the introduction by another author but that always seems to slow me down or keep me from actually reading
