Really enjoying this read on China in 1984. So very different than the China I know from 2006.

Stayed up late to get through the set-up to the trip with the author's time in the US doing prep and met with international communication frustration. Received as a gift from a family member, available at a book trading table at their work, since I travelled to China with my university 15 years ago---one indirect influence. Sam Brown's FB live episode of Shanghai was the direct prompting. And my Singaporean friend!
