当历史书来看，看得津津有味的。把西藏当一个人的话，也真是不容易，夹在大国之间，想保持独立又没有能力，委屈求全，谁也不敢得罪。

差点在前面介绍西藏社会结构时放弃了，不过熬过了就好看了。只能说，哪里有人，哪里就有江湖，哪怕是西藏这样。

I was a little hesitant to take on this absolute mammoth of a book, but now that I'm getting into it, it's seems a little crazy that I felt that way. This is historical writing at its best. It's well-researched and has constant reference to primary sources and at the same time the narrative is coherent and engaging.
