It was quiet.
"You didn't sign it," I said. "Where are my fondest wishes?"
August smiled, tentatively. "Fondest—"
I was already kissing him.

"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Dear Sophie. I will be staying in Acadia for the foreseeable future. I regret to inform you that you're stuck with me." He swallowed. "And that I love you."
It was quiet.

He was regarding me closely, a complicated look in his eyes. "You have something on your face," he said, and I touched my fingers to my mouth, but he shook his head. He moved closer and reached out a hand, resting his fingertips lightly against the side of my face, looking intently as he brushed his thumb against my cheek.
"Did you get it?" I murmured.
"I might have just made it up," he murmured back.

I have no idea how long August and I made out. If you told me seasons had changed, a dozen Super Bowls had come and gone, society was now on the iPhone 54X—I'd believe it. Because it was impossible to mark time, to gauge it, to even care, with August's mouth on mine, my hands in his hair.
