The difference between just asking a question or pursuing it is the difference between flirting with an idea or living with it. If you choose the latter, the question will likely become what the psychotherapist Eric Maisel calls a “productive obsession.” You’ll wrestle with it, walk with it, sleep with it. And all of this will prove helpful during the What If stage of inquiry.

if you never actually do anything about a problem yourself, then you’re not really questioning—you’re complaining.

Two very poignant questions re: asking questions, being curious, and critical thinking…especially as it relates to today’s political climate:

“If you can’t imagine you could be wrong, what’s the point of democracy?”

and

“And if you can’t imagine how or why others think differently, then how could you tolerate democracy?”
