It amazes me that Anthony doerr just would not learn Italian. He can joke about it, lament about it, even after his wife gets admitted to the hospital and he can’t understand a thing. Why won’t he just try harder to learn Italian? 4 months in he doesn’t even know pomodoro?! There’s something very American about this and I hate it. Like how my stepdad refuses to even try to speak any Chinese in China.
