I finished this in a fit of greed. It's very exciting and stirring. It ends on a temporary restoration of peace. Hope is in the air - but I don't trust Chrysaleon at all.

Well, I've been ill in bed these last two days, but that hasn't stopped me gorging on this.
The writing continues to be so strong at times it's almost like an eye witness account. Horror, atrocities, determined love and loyalty are all convincingly portrayed.

Wow, exciting!
The descriptions of the earthquake are purely brilliant.
The characters remain vivid - Meneotius bitter and withdrawn, Chrysaleon egostical, brave, even heroic but insensitive; I'm guessing that though at present he's as mad about Aridela as she is with him, his inherent brutality will assert itself again. Aridela fearless and untamed; I hope she doesn't surrender too much of her mind to him.
