I continue to be surprised--mostly pleasantly--by how grisly and gross this book is. It really commits. While I feel the faint beginnings of a romance stirring, it's secondary to the mystery of the killings, and also to that of whether the French curse might be reversed. And over this all we have Regency Manners. I'm so glad I picked this book up!

All these upper crust British Afflicted insisting on calling their meals "pickled cauliflower" is brilliant and cracks me up every time, but it IS going to gross me out a little the next time I eat ACTUAL pickled cauliflower. I also love that they're actually pickling out in various liquids and with various added spices and whatnot.

Hmmmm. Sir. What is your dread secret and why does Mage Momma Serafina know it? Are you a secret mage? A secret non-human? I still don't like you, whatever it is.

Uuuggghhh, I can't stand Wycliff! Hopefully I'll come around on him eventually. Hannah is pretty chill so far though. More importantly, though, I'm really enjoying the writing style and the world building so far! This is fun!
