Status Updates From Dragon's Teeth

Over a hundred pages in and I’m still not sure if there is a story. As I understand this is just one in a series of novels featuring Lanny Budd, so maybe this is just following Budd through the years, but I don’t find the character at all compelling. I thought I’d be into reading about him and his family during Hitler’s rise to power, but so far this book is a dud. :(
