Teddy is going to read this for English class this year and I'd never even heard of it, so decided to read it myself. The first short story was absolutely masterful.

The focus on how despite the war everyone was focusing on hiding their emotions is killing me. Everything they "carried" is another metaphor for suppressed emotions, but at the same time they all have a mutual understanding of the fact they are terrified.
