Oops, seems I wasn't paying enough attention, the aunt was Georgiana, the cousin (whom Beefy Bingham was in love with) was Gertrude, which explains why Freddie could've been coming out of the aunt's house and at the same time the cousin was at Blandings. Tsk tsk, how can writers hope to succeed when readers like me don't pay proper attention, for shame!

Ok, I confess, I'm confused, so Freddie is trying to sell dog food to his aunt Gertrude, whom he shortly thereafter discovers is the object of affection of his old college friend Beefy Bingham, ok, maybe a young aunt, fine, but then he says that his father is Gertrude's uncle... that seems... unlikely unless they're secretly Hapsburgs... do Brits call older cousins aunts and uncles???
