Shepherd's brief autobiography reveals his background, personality, passions, life experience, idiosyncrasies. It's a risk, perhaps, as he makes no effort to be *likable* but his vulnerability & intelligence are alluring.

The first essay's title is "The Other's Other: Against Identity Poetry, for Possibility". Considering his avowed love for Western canon (& not much else, so far) I'm a little wary but let's see.
