66% - not a ton to update on. Still good. Narrative and informative but appropriately.....not driven by plot like a fiction work.

Hallie is doing a good job at suggesting the following: The abundance of imposed shame, assumptions, and judgement fill the space in stories where the lives of these women should be.

42% - Lots of interesting commentary here on bias and peoples lack of interest in seeing intricate scenarios. Subjects include alcoholism, financial dependence on romantic partners, prostitution, motherhood, independence, class divides, religion, and more. Lots of commentary on the general public perception of these victims and the lack of evidence suggesting they were prostitutes.

”By permitting them to speak, by attempting to understand their experiences and see their humanity, we can restore to them the respect and compassion to which they are entitled. [They] were never just prostitutes; they were daughters, wives, mothers, sisters and lovers. They were women. They were human beings, and surely that, in itself, is enough.” p348
