Loved the closing original story (novella?). Very gothic and Sad Gay Feels and memorable for that and for not ending as a complete tragedy. The collection as a whole has sort of that feel, gothic and gay and full of these deep wounds that fester and need to be cleaned out. Quick good! Definitely recommended!

Just the final story (novella?) to go. Lots of good stuff, with a rather robust focus on queering "classic" stories. The Christmas Carol take was interesting, and the pulpy romp in Cairo was fun. Looking forward to this original that will close everything out.

A lovely collection. I've read most of the stories so far but they have been favorites. Together it makes for a wonderfully flowing experience. A bit meta, a bit sexy, and balanced between heartbreak and joy.

Okay, so basically you should all just pre-order this. "No Sleep, in Bethlehem" rounds out the collection as a novella length work and yow... That was so good.

"Antonia and Cleopatra" — That was freaking fantastic. The language choices, the humour, the tongue-in-cheek, and definitely the relationship between the mother and daughter.. Gah. So good. (I need to find my copy of Clockwork Cairo).

"The Concubine's Heart" — Wonderful setting/world-building/notion here, a kind of interstellar final-tomb buried-alive-with-the-mistress thing that I'm not sure I can explain, but I really liked.

"Director's Cut" is like if someone took a piece of my heart and worldview and thoughts on queer culture and then made it into a beautiful story.

Matthew Bright took a slice of my childhood and dumped it into a vat of depraved, perverse, violent filth and I am so fucking angry I didn't think to do it first.
