Strong back soft front. Need both courage and vulnerability. Strong back - letting go of pleasing people and wanting to be liked. Too harsh on ourselves. Soft front - it is difficult to keep the front soft when there is so much hurt. We armour up. We are not comfortable with emotions and we equate vulnerability with weakness or our experiences with trauma have taught us vulnerability as dangerous.

There is no courage without vulnerability. The foundation of courage is vulnerability. The ability to navigate uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure. It takes courage to open ourselves up to joy. Joy is probably one of the most vulnerable emotions because we are afraid that if we allow ourselves to feel it we’ll get blindsided by disaster or disappointment. Pain is also a vulnerable emotion.
