I would never think that I would racist things about Italians in a harpsichord book but here we are: all the Italian keyboard music is "superficial" and not relevant, of Course Scarlatti father and son, and the fact that academic counterpoint was invented in Italy is not enough to make it relevant. While the English school is quite incredible even of we don't remember one name of it.

I didn't expect that a nationalistic view could be present in a harpsichord book. The English keyboard school is presented as seminal and the Italian keyboard school as superficial? I mean we had Scarlatti? Galuppi, Paradisi. Now name an English harpsichord composer. Lol. This is beyond ridiculous.

Wow, I had thought of the harpsichord as a musically interesting sound, but inferior to the piano in capability interesting of expression. This book corrected me - The means of expression is different, and the fingering is different! She identifies the sound from Flemish and Italian harpsichords as very different. Variations such as the spinet (not spinet piano) and virginal are described.
