damn this book is so awesome! no spoilers, but the future is very queer in this book, which was very very progressive for a book written in the 70s by a vietnam vet, no less! bless joe haldeman hes a grand master and magnificent.

oh golly! i forgot about the hypnosis part where a phrase turns them into xenocidal berserkers! i think it was 1997 i last read this, which is 29 years ago! holy moly what a fantastic, horrific book!

wow!! reading this at 46 is waaay better than reading it at 17 in high school! i can see why this book is considered so GOATED already! i love that haldeman sorta wrote his wife gay into the story as the character marygay! it reminds me of frank herbert kinda writing his wife into chapterhouse and heretics of dune! what a treasure this book is going to be!
