The introduction seems compelling, but when I spot-checked a few particularly interesting claims, it was not clear that Sells was correct. I won't commit to saying anything stronger until I've read more and checked more, but I have shifted to a more sceptical footing.

So far, Sells commentary is fantastic and provides historical and linguistic context to the Quran.
The beauty of the Quran is not in its translation but Sells helps highlight its poetry without needing a background in Arabic.
An excellent point made in class: only about 15% of Muslims speak Arabic so by approaching the Quran in translation, we are engaging in the tradition shared by the majority of Muslims.
