It’s very dry, slow going.
Filled with historical and mythological facts, and words in another language.
I want to read it! But, like I said, it’s slow going. 😬

This reminds me A LOT of Kings of the Wyld (shield wearing MC, helping other band member get daughter back, bringing "band/shieldmaidens" back together, monsters, etc.)
So far there are many similarities , but not in a bad way. The writing is great.

The tone is a little YA, even if the content is not. I think it suits the book well, and it's overall extremely readable. I've had a bit of a mediocre reading week and this has been single-handedly pulling me out of it.

I was resistant at first because the theming is very heavy-handed, but I'm properly addicted now.

This is so so awesome.

I really like the Viking atmosphere and the characters so far but I'm hoping it'll lean a little further away from Kings of the Wyld eventually. It's a little too close to the same plot beats so far.

I picked this up expecting to love it but damn, it is so good already.
