Kind of a rushed ending to say the least. Still enjoyable. 4 stars.

That final confrontation with Gongyu was anticlimactic as hell ngl.

So the Serpent, Gongyu, wishes to be human, eh? I’m sure that will be the key to defeating him. Human weakness.

I really hope Ning and Kang can unite to stop the Serpent. Lady An is cool as hell. I hope she can help out Ning. I have to say I’m really enjoying it so far. Not sure why it’s rated so low. Unless the ending is diabolical but I dont see that happening

Oh fuck we’re back to square one. Ning at the Chancellor’s mercy. Christ. If he gets all these artifacts, the world is fucked.

Im liking the faster pace of this. Shu losing her magic is tragic but it seems the poison not only eats at the body but the spirit as well. Makes sense, I suppose. The Golden Serpent covets the fleeting souls of mortals.

Ah so the Emperor ultimately set this all in motion when he disbelieved Astronomer Wu and sent assassins to kill the Banished Prince. And the Golden Serpent is intending to free himself. Great!

Jesus christ, Kang’s father is a ruthless bastard. I hope Qing’er is okay, though his grandmother suffered before the end.

So Zhou is the mastermind behind everything. And likely the Golden Serpent’s avatar or priest. And the Banished Prince, just another pawn. The dual POV for this book is interesting. Curious to see how it all ends.
