Oh, Benibara wasn’t actually as bad in the manga as in the anime this chapter. In the anime, the play was a whole set up designed to steal Haruhi’s first kiss (which she’d already accidentally had). They really villainized her in the anime. I still don’t like her, but she’s not quite as predatory here.

And it’s not because she charms the ladies the way Tamaki does. I hear her compared to Tamaki a lot, but Tamaki backs off immediately if someone’s not interested. Benibara doesn’t, she’s way too pushy, and it gets played for laughs (though it seems more in the anime than in the manga, or maybe it’s just because the anime is compressed).

Benibara has to be my least favourite thing about this series, she gives definite predator vibes.
