It reads like the author is trying to garner sympathy for the killer. “Oh but he had a bad childhood” (scary father who beat his kids, a teacher who abused him, and two pretty major head injuries - and he witnessed a murder by family member at a young age etc). While I’m sure this did all contribute to him becoming a killer himself, it absolutely does not excuse it.

I’ve read plenty of books about serial killers before but this one is very graphic. Lots of quite cold descriptions of what happened to the victims, and then a long detailed section on the killer’s childhood that comes into the book AFTER he’s been caught in the timeline.
