Salpinx- Trumpet- Thin metal tube meter lng, ball-like bell in Greek era, flared bell in Roman. No keys. All notes, full octaves, fifths, high thirds, we're made by changing stiffness and shape of lips, and the speed of the air.

Transverse flute- drill mouth and fingering holes into hollow reed. Both hands could cover holes on single pipe. Flute had 10 note range.

Aulos- double pipes, each with a double reed on one end. 1 hole beneath for thumb, 5 holes above for other fingers. One hole always left open. 6 unique notes could come from each pipe.
Different notes could be played on each pipe, or a melody one one side, and a steady note on the other.
