It’s such a grand thing, being almost naked with my best friend who I also happen to be married to. It’s so good that after everything, we’re here, we’re together, and we’re living. And it’s when his mouth is on me, my eyes rolling back in my head that I send up a quiet thank you to whoever might be listening that this is mine, that I get to have this. Because there was a time when that wasn’t a sure thing.

I’ve always tried to be the strong one. For the longest time, I was all he had. It’s not like that anymore. It was always going to happen. That’s the downside of inevitability and it’s here now. Though we both know I’ll never let him go, I'm going to have to take another step back. He’ll be within reach. Always. But it’s still another step away.

She rolls her eyes. “Yeah, because I want to hear the two of you having sex. At least if I stay here, there will be babies soon and Otter and Bear will be too tired to fornicate.”
“She’s going to fit right in,” Creed says.
“Dad,” JJ says. “What’s fornicating?”
