The intercessory role of the Gentile woman in Matthew and Mark "challenges Christians committed to responding to human need." How do you respond to the neighbor in need, whether they be Christian or not?

"As long as anyone remains bent over, no one stands fully upright."

In chapter 2, we revisit the story of the woman who anointed Jesus with nard: "She remains a model for us because she was not afraid to give what was uniquely hers to give. In remembering her, we are challenged to do what we have the power to do. It may be only a little that we can do--or it may be much. This is not even the question. To do what we have the power to do is more than enough. It is everything God asks!"
