It’s taken literally 100 pages for anything of real substance to happen in this book. I’m persisting because I’m desperate to find this beautiful sense of what it is to be human that so many reviews talk about but to be completely honest, that did NOT need to be 100 pages and it’s genuinely really hard to get through. Slow paced and virtually all set up, with so much wastage on repetition.

I’m honestly finding Hared really annoying. Some things are interesting but the so often “BTW”’s that jump into explanation seem a bit like a waste of ink.
I shall persist, I’m hoping at least the lead onto *why* he’s developing feelings might draw interest. But it’s taken 73 pages to actually really get somewhere…

I’m finding the narration for this to be a bit too cheesy for my taste. I’m going to try persisting to 150 pages and make up my mind then as to whether it’s for me.
I’m also not sure the rules make sense, and perhaps as I’m only 50 pages in, then I’m misunderstanding something. He keeps talking about how bots can’t feel but talks about things emotively? It’s also repetitive (10/10, “I cannot”)

Is this book a 10/10 stone cold classic, or is it just that it feels like it was written specifically for me in this moment of my life? Whatever the deal, I love this book so much so far.

Peaceful bedtime reading about my dental robot in Ypsilanti (who knew!), and trying to guess which movies he is watching.
