Feels like reading royal gossip from the opulent Ottoman Empire, but it retains its seriousness as a historical non-fiction book. The fact that it was written by a woman who decended from harem women makes the telling so much more personal and richer. It does not shy away from the most intimate and gruesome of details, of which there are many, satisfying that morbid, curious bug in my brain.
