I've gotten used to Joel Froomkin's performance and it works for me. It's effective, he's changing his presentation slightly as Bacchus grows closer to Elise.
I like Elise and Bacchus together. Her powers are stronger than I realised. So are his.

Oh Joel I'm not sure what I think of your narration. That Bajan accent feels so questionable, even given Bacchus is mixed-race (meant as a description not a derogatory term). The voice given to Elise is almost insulting or mocking to my ear.

This is how Bacchus Kelsey introduces himself to the reader. He's half English, half Bajan (who knew that was the diminutive?). I like this as a way to into provide a very clean visual to the reader straight out.
Oh and he's (very nearly) of rank. Somewhere just below a Baron because of his skills.
