Status Updates From White Tears/Brown Scars

Okay so while I agree that the handmaids tale has ‘already happened’ through America, I don’t agree with the criticism of a journalist as a white feminist saying it could happen with respect to the forced impregnating of women in this day and age. That being said, haven’t read the full article. That also being said, think this bit could have been explained better if the article supports the reasoning

“I think back to high school where I was called “mean” for being honest or teased for not understanding some cultural nuance. White women are chipping away at the positives of our identity because we are unable to understand or we refuse to assimilate to their way of communicating.”

I initially had issues w this w my white bf, and this is such a good way to describe ‘honesty’ vs ‘meanness’

This book is so interesting. Like as a POC I feel I still have a lot to learn not from specifically race alone, but all structural inequalities and their equivalents of ‘white woman tears.’ Because it’s true and it’s natural that it’s uncomfortable and reactions are real but it’s nice to have it spelt out.
