It's a really good opposites-attract, grumpy/sunshine thing, I suppose. I didn't realise because I'm not used to enjoying the dynamic so much, but the contrast between Melissa and Kayla is used consistently for humour which I dig.

The framing of "goofy gay candy purveyor brings light and colour to attractive but frumpy and suffering gay" might be basic, but too bad I like it. Hard not to get down with Melissa thinking about how she is so very lonely and never talks to anyone.
