the edition i'm reading has the line "their faces were as threadbare as a bookkeeper’s office cat" and i just accepted it as one of chandler's brilliant descriptions. then i thought about it a minute, double checked it against my other copy and my ebook, and it was "coat" and not "cat". ngl i think cat sounds cooler even if it IS the typo
